Zeolite for Pets
Recently the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA) reported that dog and cat food was released containing aflatoxin a naturally occurring toxic chemical that comes from a fungus found in corn and other grains that causes severe liver damage in animals.
Animals that ingested food containing this toxic mold suffered permanent liver damage, which literally has killed many pets. Owners of these animals suffer emotionally and financially. Over 76 dogs have died so far from this toxin, leaving many more severely sick.
A study was conducted on aflatoxins found in grains fed to chickens. Researchers found that aflatoxins caused unfavourable microsocopic change to the liver, kidney, spleen, reproductive organs, and increased susceptibility to some environmental and infectious agents. This is the same aflatoxins that are being accidentally fed to our dogs and cats.
The study concluded that the powdered form of zeolite has the ability to adsorb the the aflatoxins, which resulted in measurable improvements in the health of various animals.
Natural zeolite has been shown to exhibit diverse biological activities and has been used successfully as a vaccine adjuvant and for the treatment of diarrhea in animals. The use of finely micronized zeolite as a treatment for dogs and cats suffering from a variety of tumors, led to improvement in the animals’ overall health statuses, prolongation of life-spans and decreased tumor sizes. Local application of zeolite (powdered) to skin cancers of the animals effectively reduced tumor formation and growth.
In addition, toxicology studies showed that the treatment did not have negative effects.
In vitro tissue culture studies showed that finely micronized zeolite inhibits protein kinase B (c-Akt) and blocks cell growth in several cancer cell lines (Bedrica, Hadzija 2001)
